Do you feel tired and un-refreshed on waking in the morning?

Do you stay that way throughout the day?

Do you have difficulty concentrating during the day?

The World Health Organization says that one-third of the world’s population experience insomnia at some stage in their lives, with approximately five per cent needing medical treatment!

To avoid medical intervention, try these natural techniques and remedies, and help put your insomnia to rest.

1. Relaxation
Relax before going to bed. Do some deep breathing, listen to soft music. According to Dr. Timothy Sharp from Sydney University, avoiding caffeine, alcohol and nicotine will also help.

2. Bedtime routine
Develop a bedtime routine so your body knows it’s time to go to sleep. By winding down your physical activities and following a set routine prior to bed, your body will start to associate some of these actions with going to sleep. Start with a cup of hot milk. Milk contains a protein called tryptophan, which helps to promote sleep. This can be substituted with chamomile tea, which is known to calm the nerves. Follow this with a hot bath or shower, the heat will help to lower your internal body temperature, again telling your body to go to sleep.

3. Your bedroom is for sleeping only
Make your bedroom your sleep-room. Turn the lights off as soon as you get into bed. Don’t read, eat or watch television in your bedroom, or do any activity that is not sleep related. Make sure the room is dark and cozy; include extra pillows on the bed and even some teddy bears. Make your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary, a room that you will instantly feel secure and comfortable in, and best of all, a room that you will crave to sleep in.

4. Calm down and clear your mind
Clear your mind of the day’s activities or things that are due to be done tomorrow. Write a ‘to do’ list for the following day. Organize uniforms, lunches, etc … the night before. Make arrangements earlier than usual so you don’t worry.

5. Give time back to yourself
Instead of trying to cram as much as you can into the day then find you haven’t left much time to sleep, try to find short cuts or solutions to give a little time back to yourself. Make a double casserole and freeze half for another night. Spot clean the house as you go. Have more barbecues, using paper plates (less washing-up). Offer to pay the kids, or the neighbour’s kids, to do some extra chores.

6. A balanced diet helps to make a balanced mind
If you’re lacking in essential vitamins and minerals your body cannot operate at its best. Throw out the junk food and fizzy drinks, and make a new start to good physical and mental health. Add in some regular exercise and watch your body respond with some improved sleep.

7. Don’t lie in bed if you can’t sleep
If you don’t feel sleepy enough to drift off, your mind will probably anguish over the fact that you can’t get to sleep. This will only make it harder to get to sleep each time you experience this. Get out of bed and go into a different room. Do something to distract yourself until you do start to feel sleepy and then try to sleep again later.

8. Medications may interfere with your sleep
It has been shown that some of the medications below may cause sleep problems. Check with your doctor if you are experiencing insomnia and are also taking any of these medications – amphetamines (diet pills), antidepressants, beta blockers (heart and blood pressure), cimetidine (ulcers), clonidine (blood pressure), cortisone, diuretics (fluid), levodopa (parkinsons), methyldopa (blood pressure) and ventolin (asthma).

9. Above all: de-stress
Sharp says that stress is the worst cause of insomnia. Use some of the techniques above and try to remove as much stress out of your life as possible, and finally put your insomnia to rest.

1. Honey, please roll over.

Sound familiar? If you snore, it probably does. The next time your husband or wife wakes you in the night and asks you to roll over, he/she may just be onto something.

Experts believe that individuals who sleep on their side, instead of their back, are less likely to snore. This is one of the best tips to stop snoring and, even better, it’s free and works immediately.

2. Elevation may help

If you sleep on one pillow, try using two instead. By elevating your head, even a few inches, you may help to improve air passages and prevent snoring.

3. Diet & exercise.

Did you know that obesity is one of the leading causes of snoring? If you are overweight, it may be time to consider a well-balanced diet and exercise regimen. In addition to being one of the best tips to stop snoring, weight loss may help to avoid future medical problems.

4. Let the Sleep Genie grant your wish.

The Sleep Genie is an anti-snoring device that comfortably supports the wearer’s jaw while keeping their mouth closed through the night. It’s blend of nylon and lycra ensure it’s comfort while it’s sleek design does not hinder the ability to sleep.

Typically working during the first use, the Sleep Genie is doctor recommended. One of the best tips to stop snoring is to select a product that is doctor recommended.

5. Tissue, anyone? Do you sneeze often? Are you always congested? Have you been diagnosed with allergies?

If so, this could have a big impact on your snoring habits. Snoring is often a result of airways becoming blocked, which is even more common among allergy sufferers. By ridding your home of allergens, with the help of air filtration units, you may be ridding yourself of snoring in the process. In addition to being one of the most effective tips to stop snoring, removing allergens from your home is just a good idea overall.

6. Just breathe.

If you have allergies, sinus infections, a cold or the flu, try running hot water in the sink. Inhale the steam from the running water and you may find that your nasal passages open up and improve your breathing. This will help you to have a better night’s sleep.

7. Get rid of bad habits.

If you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, your snoring may be directly linked. These factors are leading causes of snoring so, if they are a part of your life, there is no better time to stop.

All of these tips to stop snoring are a terrific way to regain control over your nights. If these methods do not prove successful, or if you begin to notice shortness of breath during the night, you may have a condition known as Sleep Apnea, which often requires medical attention.

This article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be used as, or in place of, professional medical advice. Before beginning any treatment for snoring, please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and remedy.

ALMONDS: rich in heart-healthy vitamin E and fiber.

APPLES: A good source of pectin, a soluble fiber that provides bulk and digests slowly, helping you feel full.

BLUEBERRIES: contains the most antioxidants of any fruit

    BOK CHOY: high in folate

BROCCOLI: great source of cancer fighting phytonutrient

CARROTS: loaded with beta-carotene, low in calories, and rich in fiber.

BROWN RICE: A source of complex carbohydrates, which provide sustained fuel and prevent fatigue. It’s also rich in the B vitamins that help turn food into energy.

FISH: excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids

KIWI FRUIT: most nutrients per calorie of any other fruit !!!

CANTALOUPE: It satisfies a sweet tooth but is low in calories

OATMEAL: high in fiber, iron and B vitamins

ORANGE JUICE: One of the best drinks there is. Vitamins C, B, potassium, antioxidants, and the list goes on and on! And of course, drink Florida orange juice. (Because that is where I live).

    POMEGRANATE JUICE:
This juice is delicious and refreshing. It has more antioxidant power than any other drink. Yes, more than red wine, green tea, blueberry juice, cranberry juice, orange juice and Noni juice. Antioxidants are extremely important because they guard your body against free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that can cause premature aging, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, even cancer.

RAISINS: high in iron and fiber

RED GRAPES: packed with resveratrol, a cancer blocker

SALMON: highest concentration of heart protective omega-3 fatty acids

TOFU: full of cholesterol lowering soy isoflavones

YOGURT: full of calcium and “friendly bacteria”

Important Vitamins

Vitamin A: (Beta carotene) Essential for good vision, healthy skin, hair, teeth and bones; can also boost immune function and help protect against cancer. Recommended amount: 10,000 IU per day.

B Vitamins, including Folic Acid: Folic Acid, B6 and B12 work together to prevent anemia, manufacture red blood cells and build genetic material. Folic Acid also has been proven to reduce the risk of birth defects. The latest research also shows that these B vitamins may improve memory and reduce levels of homocysteine (a chemical found in the blood that may help predict heart attack and stroke risk), thereby lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke. Folic Acid is also being studied as a means to ward off colon and breast cancers. Recommended amount: Folic Acid 0.4 mg. per day, B6 (pyridoxine) 50 mg. per day; B12 300mcg. Per day (micrograms).

Vitamin C: Helps prevent heart disease and cancer. Contributes to wound healing, immune functions, the production of collagen (connective tissue) and healthy gums. It also helps the body absorb iron. Recommended amount: 500 mg. per day

Vitamin D: Maintains healthy bones (by helping your body to absorb calcium) and promotes immune function; may help protect against the loss of lean muscle mass associated with aging. New research suggests it may also protect against breast and colon cancers. Recommended amount: 400 IU per day

Vitamin E: Helps form red blood cells, muscle and other tissues. In large quantities, it may protect against cancer causing cell changes, reduce your risk of heart disease and enhance immune function. New research indicates that E also may slow the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and be a useful therapy for diabetes (it improves glucose control) and arthritis (it reduces inflammation). Recommended amount: 400 IU per day. Do not exceed 400 IU per day without the advice of your doctor.

Folic Acid: Take 0.4 mg daily when trying to get pregnant as this prevents some birth defects.

Important Minerals

As with vitamins, it can be difficult, to get the amounts of minerals needed for optimum health through diet alone. Mineral supplements can help you make sure you are getting all the minerals your body requires. Below is a list of essential minerals we recommend.

Calcium: Calcium is vital for the formation of strong bones and teeth and for the maintenance of healthy gums. It is also important in the maintenance of a regular heartbeat and the transmission of nerve impulses. Calcium lowers cholesterol levels and helps prevent cardiovascular disease. It may increase the rate of bone growth and bone mineral density and children. It may lower blood pressure and prevent bone loss associated with osteoporosis as well. RDA: 1000 mg. per day, 1500 mg. per day after menopause.

Magnesium: Magnesium assists in calcium and potassium uptake. Supplementing the diet with magnesium can help prevent depression, dizziness, muscle weakness and twitching, and premenstrual syndrome, and also aids in maintaining the body’s proper pH balance. Recommended amount: 750 mg. per day. Potassium Role: This mineral is important for a healthy nervous system and a regular heart rhythm. It helps prevent stroke, aids in proper muscle contraction and works with sodium to control the body’s water balance.

Selenium: Selenium’s primary function is to prohibit the oxidation of lipids (fats). A vital antioxidant, especially when combined with vitamin E. It protects the immune system by preventing the formation of free radicals, which can damage the body. It has also been found to function as a preventive against the formation of certain types of tumors. Selenium and vitamin E act synergistically to aid in the production of antibodies and to help maintain a healthy heart and liver. This trace element is needed for pancreatic function and tissue elasticity. Recommended amount: 200 mcg. (micrograms) per day

Potassium: Important for chemical reactions within the cells and aids in maintaining stable blood pressure. Recommended amount: 50 mg. per day

Iron: Perhaps the most important of irons functions in the body is the production of hemoglobin and myoglobin and the oxygenation of red blood cells. Iron is the mineral found in the largest amounts of the blood. It is essential for many enzymes, including catalase, and is important for growth. Iron is also required for a healthy immune system and for energy production. Recommended amount: 30 mg. per day (if you take a supplement, this can cause black-looking feces and constipation).

Zinc: Assists with digestion and metabolism. This important mineral may help prevent acne and regulate the activity of the oil glands. It promotes a healthy immune system and the healing of wounds. It protects the liver from chemical damage and is vital for bone formation. Recommended amount: 15-50 mg. per day. The above dosage recommendations vary from source to source. Taking these vitamins individually may be costly and time consuming. Look for a balanced vitamin preparation with which you are comfortable. Ask your pharmacist for recommendations.

As we totally recognize, as a drug treatment centre, the primary goal is to aim patients to vacate the impulse to use drugs completely, and to assure that the term ne’er relapses. Aside of this, a treatment centre also has the duty of aiding them come back on their bases and set them in a place to recover control across their life. After executing wide research and analyzes on several treatments at dissimilar drug treatment centres, it has been found that there are certain key rules that figure the base of a perfect drug rehab. Alcoholic abuse is the addicted intake and craving for alcohol. One resolution to this term is for the patient to get to an alcohol treatment center.

Since of the delicate treatment procedure, rehab centres are staffed by coached medical master who can measure and cover acute alcohol withdrawal, handle nutritionary deficiencies, detoxify and conserve abstention on the patients. There’s no perfect alcohol rehab method and the achiever from these treatments looks on getting the correct plan and ways that are admitted in the rehab method. The alcohol treatment could run for long condition and permit for periods of relapse, but what is crucial is ne’er to give up.
